    Neurosurgical Emergencies Course

    This course is designed for neurosurgeons, neurosurgery advanced practice providers (APPs), neurologists, intensivists, emergency medicine physicians, and trainees in this field. It provides information about state-of-the-art diagnosis, workup and first-line treatments for neurosurgical emergencies. Covered in detail are: resuscitation, advances in stroke management, the ever-changing landscape of anticoagulation, TBI, spine trauma, postoperative management, prognosis, and treatments in austere environments. Learning will be enhanced with active teaching techniques including case-based discussions as well as instruction by world experts.

    Learning Objectives:

    • Describe and discriminate state-of-the-art treatment for neurosurgical emergencies including emergency department resuscitation and imaging
    • Apply up-to-date stroke management for patients with hemorrhage or ischemic stroke including aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage
    • Execute correct anticoagulation reversal and initiation in the setting of an intracranial hemorrhage
    • Assemble an effective team to treat neurosurgical emergencies including APPs
    • Demonstrate an understanding of prognosis and apply this to family discussions
