The Congress of Neurological Surgeons' Essential Papers in Neurosurgery: Neuro-oncology, is the first volume of a multi-volume subspecialty series on essential papers in neurosurgery. This series brings to the neurosurgical and neuroscience community a unique collection of critically appraised neurosurgical papers by shedding the light on some of the most impactful studies in the history of neurosurgery. The "CNS Essential Papers" is rooted in the culture of evidence-based medicine and data-driven decision making.
The section editors for the neuro-oncology book are Drs. Steven Kalkanis and Ganesh Rao. Dr. Kalkanis is the chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery at the Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, MI. He is also the medical director of the Henry Ford Cancer Institute and the Co-Director of the Henry Ford Neuroscience Institute. In addition, Dr. Kalkanis is a member and chair of multiple national organizations and committees, he is the recipient of multiple awards, and has published multiple impactful studies in neurosurgery. Dr. Rao is a professor of neurosurgery at the University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Houston, TX. He is the recipient of numerous awards. Dr. Rao's laboratory efforts are focused on modeling the genetic basis of malignant gliomas in mice and is currently supported by the National Institutes of Health. His clinical interests include the surgical management of primary and metastatic brain tumors.
