    Well My Dear Boy

    …I think things are shaping for staying at Hopkins. And I am inclined to think it will be for the best, especialy since reading your last letter. I think you will do right in publishing your articles on the hydrocephalus regardless of Dr. Cushing. He evidently doesn't show much interest in your welfare and left you to your own resources. Therefore you are justified in following them and making your own destiny regardless of him. If he as erred in his findings and you can correct him, he will have to abandon egotizm for science if he means to cater to public sentiment. Therefore I wish for success in your undertaking but first be shure you are right. Then go ahead. That was a rule in our time card on the Katy and I think it is a good one.

    Tomorrow is the 4th but I don't think their will be much doing here as it is not a very congenial reminder for the English. But I think it speaks volums for the Americans.…
