    September 11, 1912

    My Dear Son,

…I believe you will not only get general surgery but Dr. Cushing's place. You know and have more experience than he had when he started. I believe if I were you I would ask for the place but you know best. All things work together for good to them that love God.

Well after you have decided your course we will decide whether to go back to America this year or not or go to some other place for this winter. I think we have stayed here as long as we ought to. She (Mrs. Todd) is just as good as it is possible for her to be to us, but I don't care to stay much longer. We have been here one year and there is nothing here for us now. We make a good deal of work for her and she is getting rather old to work so hard.…

I had Bondi's advertisement from Sedalia that was all. No letter. I had a letter from Annie Craven with quite a lot of news. She says Mrs. Craven and Edith sailed for America on October 3rd. Maybell is not going. She may go later. The son is in Phoenix Arizona. I think I told you Mr. Craven died. She says Mr. and Mrs. Dow entertained in Lilberrys Hall for their 23rd anniversary wedding. There were about 200 people and it was simply dreadful. They served ice cream and cake and they got lots of presents. They are going to move to Texas in October. Bought up some land there. They and Annie C. are building a new kitchen making a coal shed out of the old and they are putting down a new concrete walk to the shed. Edith had her teeth taken out and she has been nervous ever since. Fred Tegler got a divorce from his wife just before his father died and he is married again (you remember Fred). Daisy started in business college. She is taking shorthand and typewriting.

Mrs. Gornal and Mr. have been to Michigan. Her sister was sick. They read in the paper about Dr. Cushing's wonderful brain operation he performed. Thought of sending it to us. Shops are all working. Good times now. Well this is a little Sedalia news. Thought you would like it.…

    Your loving Mother
