    My Dear Boy,

    …Well although she left you for 2½ years she is always thinking about you and I feel she would like to be with you for Christmas but she don't like traveling and especialy sailing. She don't mind walking all over London to look for her boy a tie for Christmas. I think we traveled a little less than 1000 miles at different times looking for a tie that would suite you. I would see one that I thought would do but she would not have the "old thing." Walter would not wear that. He wants so and so. You could have easily have seen who was Boss had you seen and heard us. However at last I saw one that I liked and I was at the same store but different window to what she was at. And she saw the same tie in her window and thought it would just suite you. So we finaly decided on the same thing but the next difficulty is the equally critical 3rd party. But I must say and I think you will admit that we done awer best both in girl and tie and if you like the tie when you see it I think you will like the girl.…

    Well Mexico and stocks are not improving much. Neither is labor troubles here. But as a family I think we have much to be thankful for. On the other hand we have and are still trying to deserve by frugality and industry all we have received and can get. I don't think any one worked more faithful than we did or you are doing.

    I am not certain of another letter reaching you before Xmas so will wish you a happy, prosperous, healthy, and thankful Christmas to Him the Giver of all good things. God bless and help you in your strugle for success in a noble cause.
