    7 Great Percy Street

    Kings Cross Road

    London, England

    c. December 15, 1912

    My Dear Son,

This time I am writing from the big city London. We bid farewell to our Barrow friends not expecting to see them again.

So far I like it here. We have a nice comfortable room for which we pay 10 shillings per week including fire, gas, cooking and attendance. We buy in our own food. The lady is very kind, ready and willing to do anything for our comfort. It is just like being at home.

I think we can save 10 or 15 shillings per week between here and Barrow. I like to go arround and see the many interesting things and espicially the nice things in the windows. When you get out on the street you can't hear much for noises, tram cars, buses and vehicles of all kinds. Sometimes it is a job to cross the streets. It is worse than Baltimore.

We were pleased to hear such good news in your last letter. It is nice to work with such nice men as Dr. Finney and Bloodgood. Men who are not afraid to let young men have a little honor that is due them. Cushing wanted you to do the work and then get the honor.…

Would like to send you a Xmas present, but it might not fit, or you might not like it. I hope you will have a very happy Xmas and a very bright and prosperous New Year, and don't forget the One above all others who loved you and shed his precious blood for you. What wonderous love.

    Your loving Mother
