    Dear Mother and Father,

Your letter and Appeal clipping to hand. It must be awful to miss an issue of such vitriolism. Why not order two and be doubly sure of getting each.

Well I don't know any more about my further plans. One rather disconcerting thing is that Dr. Heuer is going to hold on as resident next year so we all won't move up at all. If that is so I will beat it out of here. It is hard on the others even more than me. The man next below him has been out 5 years and is still waiting. He is taking it pretty hard. He says he will quit but he hasn't got enough nerve to quit. Dr. Bloodgood asked me if I was going to stay and I told him I thought not. He talked to me quite a while telling me I ought by all means to stay and never mind the money. He said he would see that that money was forthcoming. I told him that wasn't my primary motive but I had to consider it. I told him I would like to go to Minneapolis and he said he would see what was out there and at Chicago but thought I ought to stay on here.

I am getting some good work here and doing some great work on hydrocephalus experimentally. Have been injecting colored fluids into babys brains and have now developed a test for hydrocephalus which will be of big help in diagnosis and think I can also evolve an operation procedure which will yet cure it. This injection into the brains is a rather unique and hitherto unattempted thing, sounds very daring and rather foolish but we can do it with impunity. I think it is going to be bully. Am going over to tell Dr. Mall about it some of these days. He seemed amazed when I told him once that I was injecting it into human brains without injury. It will be great if I can develop a cure but it is equally or nearly as great to be able to diagnose it early. I believe there are some big advances in a problem hitherto unknown. Am writing as fast as I can to get some papers out on the different phases of the subject.

Well we are still having cool crisp weather. Good for work. But a little out of season. I am anxious to get even with Cushing as much as possible.…

Hoping you are still enjoying the best of everything.

    Your loving son, Walter
