    My Dear Son

    …Glad to hear you can have a place in Hopkins if you want it. It is no harm to look around and see what you could get. Look them over and then you will have a better idea what to do. You have always got what you wanted and I trust the way will be made plain and clear that you will make no mistake in your decision. You want to keep getting higher, not to come down for the sake of making money.

    Our object and desire is to hear of your being the biggest man in your profession in the U.S.A. Of course it would be nice too for you to be making some money. But if you can't don't let that stand in the way of your future progress. Your father's got plenty and is always delighted to help you.…

    We went to see the Suffraggette Miss Davison's funeral. The procession was miles long. Some dressed in white, some in black, some in mauve. I never saw anything like the crowds of people. One would think that nobody worked in London when anything was going on. They arrested Mrs. Pankhurst going to the funeral, but they had to release her again. I saw in this mornings paper her condition is very critical. Pa went to their meeting last Monday. I did not go. I am getting tired of their foolishness. They are beginning to know me and want me to join their union. Pa is a great sympathiser.…
