    7 Great Percy Street

    Kings Cross Road

    London, England

    March 20, 1913

    My Dear Son,

…Yesterday we went to Hyde Park. It is interesting to hear the difference of opinions in politics and every thing else. We went to a Suffragette meeting. There were some big men there speaking on the forcible feeding of the Suffragette women prisoners. There were two doctors and they said it was very cruel and dangerous to feed prisoners in such a way and a disgrace to England and they were the laughing stock of the world. Such a thing would not be done in America. Well I believe they are worse here than in America. I like the American people much better and would rather live in U.S.A. than here. …

This is hot cross bun day. The bakers made nothing but buns last night-7 for sixpence.… I suppose you don't kick any more about your meals. It is not much good for one person to do it. If you could get all the doctors to kick, it might help, but for one to do it, they will only call him a kicker. Have to form a union.

The taxi cab men have been on strike for 11 weeks and they have now got everything they wanted. All the scabs have to go. They call them black legs here.…

    Your loving Mother
