    August 7, 1912

    My Dear Son,

…Well Papa has gone to London. I did not care to go as it is too big a tax on the body. It would be something like St. Louis fair, hard work to see everything, going from morning till night to please the eye at the expense of the body.…

I had a card from him to say he arrived in London all right. He wants to have a day up the lakes when he comes back and then we will be ready to settle down, either stay here or go back to America. I am not particular where. I have travelled a good deal and am getting rather tired of it. Would like to settle down and have my own house again.

I have had a nice time and enjoyed it. I have seen all my brothers and sisters and the old home and country and friends. All these things were nice to see once more but now I would not care how soon we could settle down to home life again. In all our sight seeing and going arround I have never lost the desire for home sweet home.

I would be glad of any advice you could give about a location or where to go. Of course we would like to be where you are, but you might not be long in one place and we could not keep moving arround.…

There was 5 men overcome with gas in the steelworks while at work on Sunday. 3 of them have died.…

Did Dr. Cushing bring you a present from England. He did not feel as bad as I thought he would do when he found out what fine operations you did. Glad to hear your patients are doing fine. Hope they all live as a monument of your first work.…

    Your loving Mother
