    My Dear Son,

    …I am glad we came here, like it much better than in Barrow, more comfortable every way. If we wish to stay in, the lady fetches our dinner to our room. Fine dinner for sixpence each on week days, 9 pence each on Sunday. Last Sunday at dinner Pa said I wish my boy could have a dinner like this and when he got through he says Well God help anybody that has had more to eat than I have. She is a fine cook and keeps every thing nice and clean. When we go out we have dinner where ever we happen to be. We have saved our transit fare £2.4 since we came between here and Barrow and like it much better here. Our breakfast and supper we buy what we want and she cooks it for us.…

    We had a letter from Mrs. Todd this morning. She says it is raining all the time. It is a rainy old place. She said Mr. Todd had been sick and off work for 3 weeks. I suppose he had been drinking too much. He is very fond of whiskey. He has been a great drunkard but he is a very kind hearted man.

    I wish you could have heard Dr. Campbell Morgan. He was grand. You would have liked him. There is so much beauty in Scriptures that we don't see by reading it. Takes deep study to find out the light and beauty of the word. He is a gifted man and has studied his Bible.…
