    My Dear Boy

    …Well I was rather surprised to hear that Dr. Heuer had been appointed for resedent. I rather thought my boy would have got it. But still it was expecting lots and with no regard to seniority, which I think is only right to consider. Well never mind, you will get something good somewhere. In fact I have often thought that other places was just as good as Baltimore. On the other hand I am not a very good judge, but I think you are. And at the proper time you will have an opertunity of deciding for your self. And I feel satisfied it will all be for your good. So far it has been that way with you.

    And here let me say that I often look back over my life and think that I could not have made better conditions if I had the chance to try again. And I am satisfied your career will be just as straight a line in the direction for your good. Only difference longer. And higher steps for you.…

    The militant sufferagists are still very active and determined. The women as well as men need something. The men as a rule are careless, lazy and indiferent-no ambition to them. On the other hand I don't see how they could be as there is not much inducement from a wage point of view.…
