    My Dear Poor Boy,

    …Don't forget to get you something nice to eat as I want to see you looking well when we come back and if you need clothing get some and I will send you some more money next month if you need it. In fact, any month you want it. So don't be backward in asking as I want to see you eat good and dress good because I know you work hard and your position requires good dress so don't by any means neglect your self because of money as we have plenty for you. We figured up yesterday and we have just over $35,000. In fact since I quit work nearly 3 years ago we have saved $3,000. So that is not bad in addition to haveing a long visit.…

    Well by the time you get this all your men should be down to their respective work again for another 9 months. And you may be able to see your way more clearly. I hope all your brain cases at least where satisfactory and that you have made good success on subject of the hydrocephalus you are writing. I think Dr. C will get a microscope to examine it with to try and find defects but I trust it is imune and bullet proof against his attacts. How the mighty Cushing is liable to fall in his own field of battle provocked by his own hand. If you are successful it should bring you in prominence seeing you refute the leaders ideas. Will even show you to larger demensions then if you found out something he had not declared to be facts but now proven to be false regardless of his ideas. Will you show it to the heads of Hopkins before you publish it. When you hear about the prize don't forget to tell us even if you loose as you can't expect to win all the time although I would like to see it.

    I rather think Dr. Bloodgood was very kind to invite you to Cape May seeing his station in position is so much over yours. He must regard you eather from personal motives or respect you for your ability and in eather case shows you up to good advantage because he would not desire your service if he did not think it good for him and certainly for you to be thus respected.

    Well I see the President is having lots of trouble in satisfying Mexico. I think if he can stop them from shiping arms into Mexico, this method will let them use all they have on themselves. Then if America has to fight them it will be dead easy as they will have no weapons except their fists which I think should be all that all nations should have under sane goverment as I think armaments in nations shows cowardice.…
