    My Dear Boy,

…Well after you have made your mark in this world of science, perhaps you can take it a little easier like your father and mother are doing. Eat like hogs, sleep like babies, no Rubicons to cross, no callers to annoy at 2 A.M. for Flyer on cold stormy night. Can have our breakfast at 10 A.M., dinner 2 P.M., nice tea when we come home in the evening from seeing the sights and there is lots of time.

Certainly we are reaping the reward for industry and we are proud of it. But we have never turned down a $2,500 job, but I am glad to see you have the chance to turn them down if you think they are beneath you. You did not hear what it was did you? Not with Dr. Cushing was it? Well awer advise is take your time but strike when the iron is hot if it can possabley be determined. I think much will depend on your selection this year. And it is well you are not married or other strings tied to you. You have free hand to wait or to take as you determine.

Say you say I have to wear those socks. This being absolute I have determined to aquiesce but will wear them on state occasions. For instance when you get a good job, get married, etc.

You remeber me telling you in last letter that I saw small auto made by the Catalec [Cadillac] Motor Co. on exhibition. Yesterday I went by it and saw where Queen Alexandria had bought it for children of her friends and their pictures taken in it. So you see I am to late.

Well I see where you are haveing lots of strikes etc. in New York and elsewhere in the States. The same thing arround here. In addition we are haveing lots of trouble with the politicians and the suffragettes. We have been hearing them talk at the different centres of the city of late and some of them are good reasonable talkers. After their addresses they give the priviledge of asking questions, and they get lots but they are always equal to the task. They were badly tricked yesterday by the Liberal goverment that is now in power. They had promised them if they would stop militant tactics such as breaking windows etc. they would be permited to have their case for franchise included in an amendment before the House yesterday. And full discussion by all members permitted to voice their individual sentiments.

Yesterday instead of doing as promised, concluded that this amendment could not be discussed in its present form but as new motion in its place. They are very sore about it. For the last few days they have been parading arround Parliment in droves with large printed signs of all descriptions requesting the goverment to remember their obligation etc. etc. There were thousands watching them and about 2,000 police men keeping everybody on the move.…

I see in the papers here often about so and so (being something big) having won the Noble Prize. Have you sent your papers away for it. What is your idea about getting it?.…

    Your affectionate Father
