    Well My Dear Boy,

    …This country is all confusing with factionalism of all political ideas. The sufferegetts has got them guessing. They can out talk them, out reason them, and defey their punishment in prison, etc. I used not to think much of this movement but since I have investigated it, I think they are justified in wanting it. But to bad they can't get it without so much loss of property and especialy torture of the persons who desire it. Not so much for their own sakes as for others who they consider need it for their elevation and social standing. But I think it has always been neecessary in all the great events that has taken place in the history of the world. That the promoters of the schemes have nearly always lost their lives in advancing them. And I rather think this move will require the same sacrifice and I believe they will willingly do it. Of course the sufferegetts are much devided in their methods. By far the greatest number as yet don't believe in militancy but the militants are gaining much and have lots of money to back them. At one meeting last week they collected $15,000. The women gave money, diamonds, bracletts, etc, etc. New York sent them some from Mrs. Belmont.…

    Their has been some interesting things in the papers here about antivivisection, etc, but I presume you will have seen all about it there. Sir Victor Horseley was on the stand. He is regarded as the "Big Gun" here. They all listen to what he says on medical matters. Something like Dr. Welch in Baltimore.…
