    My Dear Son,

…We had no particular reasons for leaving Barrow before Xmas. We thought it would be nicer here and also save about 15 shillings per week, which we have done. Besides there were so many friends there, it would have been rather expensive giving presents. And the weather was so cold and rainy that we were tired of it. It is much warmer here. It has been more like spring, have not seen any snow or winter weather here.

No we had no fall out in Barrow. They were all very kind to me, just as much or more than to Pa. We are very comfortable here. I don't do anything, not even make the bed. When we go out every thing is cleaned and in order, fire set ready to light when we get back, and she is a good cook. It is just like being at home. We are well satisfied and as Pa told you I think we had better stay here till you have decided something definite. It does not make any difference where we go. One place is as good as another for us so long as we are not settled in a home.…

Well, we have just got through with a big dinner and I will just tell you what we had, stewed rabbit, boiled bacon, dumplings, carrots, turnips, potatoes and rice pudding with apple sauce. This cost 6 pence each, little over 10 cts each and it was fine, wish you could have shared it with us. I hope your meals are better and that you continue to get fatter.

Last Sunday we went to St. Paul's Cathedral. The service was disgusting to me. It is very much like the Roman Catholic church. It took 3 ministers to perform the service. One would sing out a prayer, another would pop up at another place or pulpit and read a chapter, the other one read a sermon or a paper. A cowboy could have done as well. The people seemed very devout.

We have been to several museums. Some of them are not very interesting to me. We were in Wallace Museum this week.…

Don't you do any brain work now. I thought you had to help. Do you ever hear from Cushing or that millionaire lady. Are you still taking care of her rooms for her. Do you ever write to Miss Stanley or hear from her.

We had another letter from Mr. Sedden. He is crazy over spiritualism. I am sorry for him that he could listen to such delusions.

    Your loving Mother
