Innovation and Engagement Take Center Stage at 2017 CNS Annual Meeting

SCHAUMBURG, Ill, September 28, 2017 — The Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) is proud to host its 65th Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts, October 7–11. The meeting gathers thousands of neurosurgeons, advanced practice providers, professionals, and health care advocates from around the world in recognition and celebration of the important innovations and advancements being made across the field of neurosurgery.

Themed “Transformation and Celebration,” the 2017 Annual Meeting invites attendees to celebrate the exciting changes transforming the daily practice of neurosurgery, while also celebrating the progress the profession has made in improving patient outcomes and leading innovative change in health care. The CNS is proud to welcome the Neurological Society of India (NSI) as its international partner.

Held at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, attendees will be met with the latest medical technologies and interactive experiences in the Exhibit Hall. Live surgeries via telemedicine technology will be performed on Monday and Tuesday. Participants can also interact with one another and featured guests in the new CNS Xperience Lounge, powered by Surgical Theater, a dynamic new space designed to facilitate insightful dialogues among attendees, speakers, and award-winning authors. The Lounge also provides hands-on, case-based experiences with cutting-edge tech from corporate partners.

The CNS has partnered with Surgical Theater to bring a number of unique and immersive virtual reality experiences to the meeting, including an attempt during Monday’s General Scientific Session at breaking the Guinness Book of World Records for having the most people participate in a virtual reality experience at the same time. Coupled with redesigned member services options, a brand-new Big Data Symposium, the launch of two exciting new CNS mobile products, and an online search platform, this meeting brings innovative and engaging ideas to life.

The 2017 CNS Annual Meeting is also the platform for hearing the latest science and research from leaders in all neurosurgical subspecialties. Special celebrations during the plenary sessions will honor the Papers of the Year from the CNS journal Neurosurgery, as well as the Innovator of the Year. As always, the meeting will feature oral presentations in specialty section sessions and during the General Scientific Sessions, as well as rapid exchange oral presentations.

A line up of nine speakers will touch on how best to adapt to disruption, changing trends in health care and business, and the future of science. Speakers include Geoff Colvin, senior editor-at-large for Fortune magazine; Richard Susskind, author and speaker; Bernard J. Tyson, Chairman and CEO of Kaiser Permanente; Kathy McGroddy Goetz, vice president of Global Partnerships & Alliances Management for IBM Watson Health; Devi Prasad Shetty, MD, cardiac surgeon and health care pioneer; Anders Ericcson, PhD, author and authority on expertise; Brett King, bestselling author on business issues; Jamie Holmes, author and speaker; and Amy Bassano, deputy director of the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation.
