Course Description:
This course is designed for neurosurgeons, neurosurgery advanced practice providers (APPs), neurologists and emergency medicine physicians. It provides information about state-of-the-art diagnosis, workup and first-line treatments for neurosurgical emergencies. This faced-paced course focuses on emerging technologies are that are changing the field. Covered in detail are: advances in stroke management, the emerging role TXA in intra-cerebral hemorrhage, the ever- changing landscape of anticoagulation, TBI and spine trauma, and endovascular treatment of chronic SDH. Audience participation will be enhanced through small group discussion occurring in breakout rooms. Learning will be enhanced with recall centered learning design, as well as case based learning.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, attendees will be able to:
- Describe and distinguish state-of-the-art work up for neurosurgical emergencies.
- Implement the correct treatment for the anticoagulated patients needing emergency surgery.
- Assemble an effective interprofessional team to treat neurosurgical emergencies
- Execute go concordant neurosurgical treatment in the emergency setting.
