Transition to Practice Course
Event Date:Saturday, August 10, 2019 (All day) to Sunday, August 11, 2019 (All day)
About the Event:
Ashok Asthagiri, MD and Mark Hadley, MD
This intensive two-day course is part of a comprehensive curriculum designed by the CNS to help guide participants through the transition period from senior residency to mid-career neurosurgeon.
Common challenges facing the new attending physician from the business and medicolegal aspects of neurosurgery to personal growth will be addressed by a variety of speakers who have either recently undergone the transition to seasoned veterans or who have successfully helped others establish their careers.
In addition to practical considerations associated with this monumental shift in responsibility and priorities, each of the speakers will aim to discuss indications (and lack thereof) for surgery in their subspecialty areas. This facet of clinical practice is important to establish early in one’s career, not only to best prepare for case submission to the ABNS, but to also help establish local reputation among peers and trust in judgment by patients.
This course is intended for the recent residency graduate or post-graduate fellow embarking on his or her neurosurgical career. The format promotes interaction with faculty and peers through question-and-answer sessions, small group discussions, and a networking cocktail hour and dinner. The concepts and strategies that are provided are applicable to those starting in community practice or to those in academics, military, and the government.
Physicians may earn up to a maximum of 16 CME CreditsTM
