    Vincent Traynelis

    Vincent C. Traynelis is Professor of Neurosurgery at the University of Iowa. Dr. Traynelis has a significant research interest in cervical spinal kinematics and the biomechanics of cervical spinal instrumentation and motion sparing reconstructive spinal surgery. He also directs a lab, which is focused on the investigation on the interactions of polyunsaturated fatty acids and malignant gliomas. He has an active clinical practice, which is heavily weighted toward spinal and skull base surgery. He has published 84 peer-reviewed papers, over 40 book chapters, and three books. He currently serves on the editorial boards of Neurosurgery, Spine, The Journal of Neurosurgery, The Journal of Spinal Disorders and Surgical Techniques and The Spine Journal. Dr. Traynelis has served the Congress of Neurological Surgeons in many capacities including Executive Committee Member-at-Large, Chairman of the Education Committee, Scientific Program Chairman, and Annual Meeting Chairman. He currently serves on the Strategic Planning Committee. He has actively contributed time to other professional organizations. Dr. Traynelis is the past Chairman of the Joint Section of Disorders of the Spine and Peripheral Nerves. He has been a Councilor and the Scientific Program Chairman for the Neurosurgical Society of America. He has served as the Scientific Program Chairman for the Cervical Spine Research Society and is currently their Vice President. Vince and Joan Traynelis have been married for 23 years. They met in Morgantown, West Virginia but Iowa City has been their home since 1989. They have three children: Vince, Laura, and Matt who are 21, 18, and 15 years of age. Vince is a junior at the University of Kansas in Lawrence. Laura will be a freshman in the fall at the University of Colorado in Boulder. Matthew is a sophomore at West High School in Iowa City.
