Annual Meeting Press Guidelines

The Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) is pleased to welcome media representatives to the 2016 CNS Annual Meeting held in San Diego, California, at the San Diego Convention Center, September 24–28, 2016.

Each year, the CNS brings together thousands of neurosurgeons, advanced practice providers, professionals, and advocates from around the world to share knowledge, attend scientific sessions, access continuing medical education, and learn about the newest technology and clinical practice guidelines.

Please note the following CNS Press Room Guidelines and media credentialing policies for the conference.


All media personnel attending the 2016 CNS Annual Meeting are required to register in advance via the registration form. Once onsite, media are required to check-in at the CNS registration area and then proceed to the press room to pick up their press badges. Press badges allow admission to general scientific sessions, courses and the Exhibit Hall and must be worn at all times.

Press Room

Located in Room 13 on the mezzanine level, the Press Room includes free internet access and interview space. The Press Room hours (CT) are:

Sunday, September 25 12:00–6:30 pm
Monday and Tuesday, September 26–27 6:30 am–6:00 pm
Wednesday, September 28 6:45 am–2:00 pm

Reporters can access the meeting program and other relevant meeting information on Registered journalists will receive an electronic press kit with embargoed news releases about media highlights, educational sessions and scientific abstracts approximately one week prior to the conference.

Registration fees for working press are waived. Working press are editorial staff of newspapers or magazines, medical, or health care publications and broadcast or web-based media. To receive a press badge, media representatives must provide identification such as a business card, a letter of assignment on company letterhead from an editor of a recognized news organization certifying you are covering the CNS conference for the organization, and published samples of bylined work, preferably stories relating to neurosurgery. Press badges are available only to working journalists who can show evidence that their attendance will result in coverage of the conference.

General Conditions

The on-site CNS Press Room is set up specifically for journalists attending the meeting and for interviews. Press with credentials may cover all presentations with the exception of certain closed events. Please contact the CNS Marketing and Communications Department for assistance in scheduling interviews and locating presenters. 

Press with credentials are observers of, and not participants in, all presentation question-and-answer sessions. With permission from the presenter, questions from press are limited to before and after presentations. CNS may restrict press attendance at any session for patient confidentiality or any other reason. 

Media Services

The CNS Marketing and Communications staff can assist journalists by providing background information on neurosurgical health issues and assisting in setting up interviews with meeting speakers or CNS officers and spokespersons.
