Pediatric

The objectives of the Section shall be to enhance and assure the advancement of the subspecialty of pediatric neurosurgery by: (1) serving as a forum for the intimate exchange of ideas and information among a group of neurological surgeons whose interests are directed towards the infant and child, (2) serving as a vehicle through which the Board of Directors of the AANS and the Executive Committee of the CNS can be apprised of the activities and the advances in the subspecialty of pediatric neurosurgery, (3) serving as a resource for the Board of Directors of the AANS and the Executive Committee of the CNS for conducting special studies and proposing solutions to problems in pediatric neurosurgery when directed to do so, and (4) service as a section to assist the AANS and the CNS to advance education, research and patient care in the area of pediatric neurosurgery.

The Pediatric Neurosurgery Section of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and Congress of Neurological Surgeons has established 1) a resident traveling fellowship for neurosurgeons in-training in accredited North American residency programs, as well as 2) an international traveling fellowship for neurosurgeons who, at the time of their application are either training in a residency program outside the U.S. and Canada, or who have completed such residency training within the past five years.

The fellowships will cover the traveling and living expenses for a three-month period to be spent observing the activities of an established Pediatric Neurosurgical service of the applicant’s choosing in the United States or Canada. Up to two national and two international fellowships will be awarded yearly on the basis of a competitive evaluation by a committee of the Pediatric Section at the annual meeting in December. The maximum fellowship stipend is $2500 for the national award and $5000 for the international award.
