CME Mission Statement
The Annual Meeting and Interactive Online Activities (Type of Activity) are the
primary vehicles through which the organization provides education in clinical,
technical, research, and socioeconomic developments in neurosurgery. (Purpose)
This is accomplished by utilizing a variety of educational techniques including
but not limited to Practical Courses, Symposia, Special Courses, Luncheon Seminars,
Oral Paper Presentations, Poster Presentations, Video Demonstrations, Online Self
Assessment Testing, Online Interactive Courses, and other interactive activities
(Content Areas). The Annual Meeting and the Online offerings are primarily produced
for members of the Congress of Neurological Surgeons (CNS) (Target Audience).
Non-Congress Neurosurgeons in all phases of their career, residents in neurosurgery,
and affiliated specialists are all welcome to participate in the Annual Meeting
and in the online activities. While the primary audience for these activities is
from North America, the Congress provides educational opportunities for international
neurosurgeons as well.
The expected results of the CNS program of CME are to provide education that refreshes
physicians on the underlying knowledge base of neurosurgical medicine, enhance the
development of non-medical core competencies, increase physician awareness and understanding
of basic and clinical neurosurgical science, provide opportunities for dialogue
and debate with peers and recognized experts on topics related to the clinical practice
of neurosurgery, prepare physicians for initial and continuing certification in
neurological surgery, further physician self study and reflection on his/her clinical
practice, and/or promote and support change in physician practice behavior as necessary
to conform with established bodies of evidence and clinical practice guidelines
in neurological surgery. The educational effectiveness of the CNS CME program will
be assessed through participant evaluation forms and other instruments (Expected
Results).
