Patient Safety
Federal patient safety legislation develops confidential systems for physicians to report medical errors and outcomes. These systems are essential to increasing overall quality in the healthcare system. While bills passed both the Senate and House in 2004, legislation was never signed into law. The Washington Committee supports such legislation so long as there are strict confidentiality provisions that prohibit plaintiff attorneys from subpoenaing records.
