The Council of State Neurosurgical Societies (CSNS)
The Council of State Neurosurgical Societies (CSNS) is a grassroots organization
representing neurosurgeons from all 50 states on a variety of socioeconomic issues,
and providing guidance and educational resources to the CNS on topics important
to neurosurgeons across America.
The Council of State Neurosurgical Societies (CSNS) was established in 1973 as the
National Advisory Group—then a committee reporting to the AANS/CNS Joint Socio-Economic
Committee. In 1986, the organizational structure was streamlined to create the Council
of State Neurosurgical Societies, with a single set of officers and its own membership.
Throughout its history, the organization has served as an educational resource and
repository of socioeconomic expertise, and has given a voice to every neurosurgeon
on these critical issues.
The CSNS membership is comprised of delegates from each state, in a ratio of one
delegate for every 50 member neurosurgeons within that state society, as well as
delegates appointed by the CNS and AANS Presidents and 12 Resident delegates selected
from and by the four member quadrants. The CSNS meets twice each year, where it
considers resolutions submitted by delegates or its committees and receives reports
from those committees as well as the CNS and the AANS. Resolutions that are adopted
by the assembly vote are sent to the AANS and the CNS for consideration and potential
implementation.
