The Council of State Neurosurgical Societies
– The Council of State Neurosurgical Societies (CSNS) is a grassroots organization representing neurosurgeons from all 50 states on a variety of socioeconomic issues, and providing guidance and educational resources to the CNS on the topics important to neurosurgeons across America.
The American Board of Neurological Surgery
– The American Board of Neurological Surgery (ABNS) was approved as a new examining Board in medical specialties in 1940 by action of the Advisory Board for Medical Specialties. The broad aim of the ABNS is to encourage the study, improve the practice, elevate the standards, and advance the science of neurological surgery and thereby to serve the cause of public health.
Women in Neurosurgery
- The main goal of Women in Neurosurgery (WINS) is to promote a cooperative and supportive environment among women practicing neurosurgery, including those in training to become neurosurgeons. As the group has grown, it has become an international organization with members in Asia, Europe and Africa. WINS encourages its members to get involved in organized neurosurgery and serve as a resource to the AANS, CNS and other neurosurgical and medical organizations at the local, state and national levels.
The Foundation for International Education in Neurological Surgery
- The Foundation for International Education in Neurological Surgery (FIENS) was founded by a group of leading neurosurgeons in order to address the critical lack of trained neurosurgeons in the developing world. Since 1969, FIENS has provided hands-on training and education to neurosurgeons around the world. Its volunteer neurosurgeons and personnel spend months on-site, teaching their techniques to local neurosurgeons and setting up neurosurgery residency programs. FIENS volunteers also provide critical assistance in the operating room.
The World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies
– Founded in 1955, the World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) is a professional, scientific, non-governmental organization comprising five continental associations, 98 national neurosurgical societies and six affiliate societies, representing some 30,000 neurosurgeons worldwide.
The Society of Neurological Surgeons
– The Society of Neurological Surgeons (the "Senior Society") is the American society of leaders in neurosurgical residency education, and is the oldest neurosurgical society in the world. Academic department chairman, residency program directors and other key individuals comprise the active membership of the Society. The membership is limited to 200 active members, while senior, inactive and honorary members fill out the remainder of the Society.
American Association of Neurological Surgeons
– Founded in 1931 as the Harvey Cushing Society, the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS) is a scientific and educational association. All Active members of the AANS are board certified by the American Board of Neurological Surgery, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada or the Mexican Council of Neurological Surgery, A.C.
